Chapter 4: Invitations
Hullo everyone! I have been away for almost a year so I’m sure there are a few questions. And I won’t be getting to any of them. Chapter 4 was a relatively easy read but I did recive a letter from our dear Friend plot.
Dezi,
I need to go away for awhile to get my head on straight. My cousin, Meaningless Shite will tend to the needs of this book until I return.
Love, Plot
Sigh
Dreams and why edward must have wanted her dead.
At the end of Chapter 3 Edward warns Bella that it’s best if they don’t become friends in true “I’m trouble baby, stay back!” kinda way. Naturally the events of the day cause Bella to have a wet dream about Edward, which, unfortuantly, is how chapter 4 starts. What’s in the dream can only be described as an 80s Music video.
In my dream it was very Dark, and what dim light there was seemed to be radiating from Edwards skin.I couldn’t see his face, just his back as he walked away from me, leaving me in the blackness. No matter how fast I ran I couldn’t catch up to him; no matter how loud I called, he never turned. (68)
I half expected slo-mo dove (see fig 4.1)to make an appearance. Why is there light radiating from Edward? Is this Myers way of saying Edward is the light at the end of the dark tunnel of her life? Or is this just a shitty dream sequence?
The next day at school Bella is the talk of the hall way and as usual Edward looks like he has to take an earth shaking dump every-time he sees her. To Bella this just means Edward wished he never saved her…yes. The melodrama, god it’s everywhere!
Why Bella Swan I do believe you are now a lady.
Suitors! We love them don’t we? I reminds us of Gone With the Wind and Austen novels. You always either want the heroine to tell them to piss off or fall in love with the one that’s perfect for her in every way. Bella Swan’s got three of them! Because she is a rare and majestic unicorn that pisses beer and shits nachos…ew I upset myself with that one. Anyway in the true spirit of Teenage dramas there’s a dance. Gee and wouldn’t you know it, it’s ladies choice! :D Naturally Bella is uninterested because she’s , tee hee, so clumsy. Unfortunately for her three guys want to cha-cha slide with her at the spring sock hop. We have Mike, who is apart of the little group of friends/people who she randomly starts hanging out with in chapter 2 or 3. He’s in her bio class and clearly has the hots for Bella. He doesn’t like Edward because has Pat Benatar pointed out Love is a Battlefield and Edward is the enemy. There’s Eric, the goth kid introduced in chapter 1, he awkwardly waits for her by her car to ask her. Then finally there’s Tyler who, with help from Edward and his shiny Volvo, corners Bella in an elaborate scheme. Edward blocks Bellas car with his and gives Tyler who’s behind Bella, time to go up to Bellas window and asks her to ask him to the dance.I think this part annoyed me so much because for most of the chapter it was just boys chasing Bella. It has nothing to do with anything! It’s like a fucking episode of Happy Days. But it did provide a lead in to more one on one time with Edward and Bella so we can get this fucking story rolling. But we’ll discuss that in Chapter 5. Which I was going to do tonight but instead we’re going to go off on a small tangent about something good for a change.
